RE:         Clarification Regarding the Systemwide Salary Freeze for Staff Student Employees in Non-Academic Titles

On May 18, 2020 President Napolitano issued a letter to the UC community announcing a systemwide freeze on salaries for policy-covered staff employees, effective July 1, 2020 for FY 2020-21.  Please note that this freeze applies equally to any annual pay adjustment that would normally be implemented for casual-restricted, policy-covered, UC student employees in non-academic titles such as Student 1, Resident Assistant, and Student Intern. The freeze also applies to any annual pay adjustment that would normally be implemented for staff student employees in limited appointment titles such as Student Intern and Non UC Student.  Pay increases that result from transferring from one position to another or for students taking on additional duties and responsibilities are not subject to this freeze.

Due to the California Minimum Wage orders, the UC system will adhere to the minimum wage increase to $14.00/hour on January 1, 2021 (unless they are required to abide by higher local city government minimum wage orders).
