RE: Updates Regarding Rehired Retiree Benefits Eligibility, Communications and Training
Earlier this year, Human Resources communicated with you about the upcoming changes to the rehired retiree benefits eligibility policy (memo dated 3/27/25). We are writing to you today to give you an update and to offer some new information and resources.
New Training
A new training is now available in the UC Learning Management System called “Benefits Eligibility for Rehired Retirees.” This training is designed for UCPath transactors, hiring managers, and department representatives responsible for assisting and advising staff and faculty who are currently or considering becoming rehired retirees. You will need a NetID and password to login.
Key Communications Initiatives
In partnership with UCPath, the UC Office of the President has a new communications plan that involves targeted emails for employees who intend to retire between May 1 and September 30 and who are eligible for retiree health benefits. These emails will be sent monthly (May, June, July, August) to employees with newly identified retirement elections. For current rehired retirees, an email is planned for July to inform them about the new policy change.
UCnet Updates
For a complete set of information about returning to work at UC after retirement, visit the Returning to Work at UC after Retirement web page. You will find the Returning to UC Employment After Retirement fact sheet, the newly updated FAQ’s, a Rehired Retirees Decision Tree and specific information about how your benefits may be affected on the Rehired Retiree Benefits Eligibility web page.
Support Resources
There are live and pre-recorded retirement webinars covering UCRP benefits, rehired retiree benefits eligibility, retirement savings and retiree health coverage. The live Rehired Retiree Benefits Eligibility webinars are offered the 2nd Friday of each month, from 10-11:30am. The webinar schedules and the pre-recorded webinars can be found on the Retirement Planning Webinars web page.
Current Rehired Retirees
If you’re a current rehired retiree and wish to meet with a UC Retiree Health Liaison from RASC, please visit the scheduling site to make an appointment. We recommend that you attend a live webinar first (or watch a pre-recorded webinar) before scheduling an appointment.
