RE:       A New Performance Evaluation Form for Policy-Covered (Non-Represented) Staff

In late June, Human Resources announced via a campus memo that a new performance evaluation form and process would be rolled out in FY2020-21 for policy-covered (non-represented) staff.  Since this is a year of transition to the new form and process, I want to keep you informed of what you should be thinking about between now and March 2021.

  • The new form is now posted on the Human Resources website.  The form has been simplified and includes a new section to record goal setting accomplishments.  Our new performance development approach supports goal-based, forward looking, coaching conversations.  Between now and March 2021, goal setting and coaching conversations are encouraged, though optional.
  • The due date for performance evaluations for policy-covered staff will be March 31st of each year.
  • On April 1, 2021, the need for a paper form will be replaced with ePerformance, an interactive web-based performance feedback process that is a module in UCPath.  All policy-covered staff will transition to ePerformance and the 12-month performance cycle will run from April 1 to March 31 of each year.  Goal setting and checkpoint meetings are embedded within ePerformance and are integral components of the new 12-month performance cycle.

In collaboration with campus administrative divisional leaders, Human Resources is scheduling informational kickoff sessions in January 2021 to explain the transition to ePerformance and the shift to a performance development mindset.  Additionally, supplemental follow-up sessions will be offered beginning in February 2021 to build the understanding of the new elements of goal setting and coaching checkpoint conversations.

The campus will be kept informed of the dates for the ePerformance informational sessions.  The UCSB ePerformance webpage will be maintained with the most up-to-date event information and learning resources in advance of the January 2021 informational sessions.

As I mentioned in the earlier announcement in late June, a sampling of departments from across the campus have volunteered to be early adopters of ePerformance.  These early adopter departments and their staff have already transitioned to ePerformance and away from the current paper-based process.  Their participation in the early adopter program will allow Human Resources to use their feedback to ensure that our training and informational materials are clear and well prepared for the campuswide roll-out of ePerformance in April 2021.  Ongoing updates will be provided in the coming months.  We look forward to sharing more about the shift to a performance development mindset!
