UC People Management Series and Certificate Program

UC People Management Certificate Program

This program is for anyone who manages or supervises others, or aspires to do so, and consists of core and elective courses covering the following competency areas: Performance Management, Managing People, Administration and Operations, Change Management and Communications. It is designed to increase our people management capabilities at UC Santa Barbara as well as across the entire UC system.

What are the benefits of completing the Series and Certificate?

  • Builds baseline management skills for all people managers
  • Increases opportunity for promotion and potential for future leadership positions
  • Offers easily accessible online courses that are learner-centric and self-paced
  • Builds on coursework already completed

All courses are available in the UC Learning Center (Tip: Enter "PMCP" in the "Search" field on the Learner dashboard). In order to obtain a People Management Certificate, you will need to complete all 10 Core Courses and at least 4 Elective Courses covering 4 out of 5 different competency areas.  With the exception of one instructor-led course (Overview of the UCSB Performance Management Process), all of the Core Courses and Elective Courses are systemwide online courses.

In addition, employees who complete the certificate will be eligible to attend the UC Systemwide People Management Conference to be held on August 1-3, 2017. The conference will bring together leaders from across UC who have completed the People Management Certificate Program, the Management Development Program (MDP), or the UC-CORO Systemwide Leadership Collaborative. The goal of the annual conference is to provide attendees with the opportunity to collaborate/exchange with one another, learn about current topics, share best practices, and continue their learning on relevant leadership topics within the UC system.

UC People Management Series

The University of California acknowledges the importance of developing our people and preparing them for future roles. To that end, Systemwide Talent Management partners with the campuses, medical centers, and LBNL, through the Talent Management Consortium, to provide development experiences, tools, and programs for employees across the system.

Based on the UC People Management Competencies and built in partnership with UC locations, the People Management Series was launched in 2014.  These eCourses are designed to provide "just-in-time" fundamentals training to people managers and those who aspire to people management roles. The eCourses are available in the UC Learning Center:
