RE: Formal Review/ Employee Comment - Renewal Policy on Supplement to Military Pay
This is to let you know that Policy on Supplement to Military Pay is undergoing a formal review. As with all such policy revisions, Human Resources invites employees to comment on the proposed changes. Eligible employees under the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay are those who serve on active military duty in the Overseas Operations Contingency campaign.
Under the policy, the University provides eligible employees with supplemental payments equal to the difference between the employees’ University base pay and their military pay and allowances until the end of an employee’s tour of active military duty, until June 30, 2014, or until the separation date of an employee’s University appointment, whichever comes first. The University also continues to pay the UC contribution to employees’ health plan premiums and other UC sponsored health and welfare benefits while an employee is eligible for benefits under the policy. Benefits provided under the policy are subject to a two-year lifetime limit.
Employees who are not eligible for supplemental payments because their military pay and allowances exceed their University wages may elect to continue UC health plan coverage while on military leave. The University will continue to pay the UC contribution to employees’ health plan premiums and other UC sponsored health and welfare benefits plans if the employee continues to make the employee contribution.
It is the University’s desire to assist, to the extent possible, employees who are called to active military duty during these campaigns. Therefore, the University has proposed that the Policy be renewed for a four-year period, effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2018.
The revised policy reflecting the proposed four-year renewal is posted at: http://ucop.edu/human-resources/_files/psmp-draft.pdf
The current policy is available at: http://policy.ucop.edu/doc/4000423/MilitaryPay
This is a formal review and employees covered by this policy who wish to provide comments may submit them to Farfalla Borah by no later than Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
