RE:       Notice of Formal Review and Employee Comment Period for Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program

Colleagues,

The University of California is proposing to renew the Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program, which provides the opportunity for eligible career staff (except Senior Management Group members) to voluntarily reduce their appointment percentage and corresponding pay. The program will be in effect from July 1, 2017.

ERIT is an optional tool that locations may choose to implement as a cost savings resource. The ERIT program permits career staff employees to request the department head’s approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, in exchange for certain specified advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at the employees’ pre-ERIT rates.  When approved, the ERIT contract can be no less than one month and no more than 36 months in duration.

The revised program reflecting the proposed renewal, including draft FAQ’s, is posted at: http://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/tools-and-services/administrators/programs/proposed/erit.html

This is a formal review and employees covered by this policy who wish to provide comments may submit them to Farfalla Borah at Farfalla.Borah@hr.ucsb.edu by no later than May 22, 2017.

Thank you.
